Growing up, I wanted nothing more than to go to college and get some big fancy corporate job! Noone in my family had ever attended college and I wanted to be the first to go and the first person to graduate college!
My life was very different from what I saw on TV! And what I saw on TV is what I wanted…or so I thought. I did the normal babysitting on occasion but as soon as I turned 15 I landed my first “real” job. I held that job for 4 years until I transferred to an out of state college. Immediately after getting settled in the dorm I went out and found myself another job….this time waiting tables.
Once I tired of waiting tables, I started sewing custom t-shirts and sweatshirts and was paid based on my productivity so if I needed a little extra cash I just worked a little harder. The thrill of being able to control my income and work when I wanted to was addictive.
It was then that I knew entrepreneurship was my calling my name. I learned from the business owner I worked for that I would need to know how to manage a staff
and how to market and grow a business if I wanted to be a successful business owner. I majored in marketing and
advertising and as soon as I graduated landed my first entry level management position.
I loved being the person in charge, even if it wasn’t my own
business. I made a couple of career moves always with the goal of learning what I needed to know to be a successful
entrepreneur! I went from managing a store that was part of a national chain to full profit & loss responsibility for a brand new business opening up in the area. I learned so much about
running a business and even though I didn’t technically own this business I was fully responsible and made bonus based on the monthly profitability of the business. This was great until our daughter started kindergarten and I wanted to be able to help in her classroom and go on field trips and pick her up from school. Working for someone else just didn’t allow
for the flexibility that I was craving. And not working and not having a salary coming in just wasn’t an option for our family.
I set about trying to figure out how I could quit corporate America. Like many aspiring entrepreneurs, I faced my fair share of failures. I launched a home-based business selling custom window blinds but I struggled to attract
customers. I tried advertising, joining the Chamber of Commerce but I was barely covering expenses, so I went back to work full time working for someone else. A few years later, I had the longing to try entrepreneurship
again and we invested in a franchise. Our timing could not have been worse because 1 year into our business
our country entered the Great Recession of 2008/2009. Despite investing in inventory, spending tens
of thousands of dollars building out our retail space, lots of inventory and a fancy website, the business struggled. We were forced to close the business in April 2009. These setbacks were disheartening, but they taught me invaluable lessons about resilience and adaptability. I tried a couple of multi-level marketing companies too but found it to be a saturated market and a business model with a lot of scrutiny. Each failure, though painful, was a stepping stone that provided me with critical insights and skills.
My turning point came when I stumbled upon digital marketing. It started with a free webinar on social media marketing that piqued my interest. I decided to dive deeper and invested in comprehensive courses covering SEO, social media marketing, email campaigns, and pay-per-click advertising. I immersed myself in learning everything I could about these strategies. I applied these newfound skills to a new venture—helping people
learn these same techniques to start their own online businesses and drive growth and profitability. I used social media to create engaging content, optimized my website for search engines, and built an email list to nurture leads. The results have been amazing. My client base grew rapidly, and my revenue soared. I realized the power of digital marketing to reach a vast
audience and convert interest into sales. This success story was not just a fluke; it was the result of strategic planning, consistent effort, and leveraging the right tools.
Today, my business is thriving, and I’m passionate about
